Invisible Braces – An Introduction to Modern Orthodontic Dentistry

Dental brackets are used frequently as a way to repair teeth alignment. It is the orthodontic treatment generally prescribed by expert orthodontists. Today aligners have become a fashion statement. Modern people have become style conscious. They have also become aware about the aesthetic beauty of their smile. This is the main reason why people have started using invisible braces instead of the traditional metal brackets.

Generally dentists recommend dental aligners in order to repair orthodontic problems such as crooked or misaligned teeth, over bites, under bites, crowded tooth, malocclusion, and others. All types of people including kids, teens, and adults can use dental brackets to repair their oral problem. Nowadays dental aligners are often used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances too.

History:

Orthodontic brackets have a rich and interesting history. According to many scholars and historians dental aligners were used even in ancient days. Aristotle and Hippocrates mentioned the ways of straightening tooth alignment in their books. Archeologists also discovered many mummified individuals with the appearance of metal bands wrapped around their tooth. Even a Roman tomb was found with a number of teeth bound with gold wire. The modern scientists have found resemblance between those ancient metal bands and modern teeth braces.

How do the Braces Work?

Teeth aligners actually move teeth by applying force or pressure on the teeth. Brackets, bonding materials, arch wires, and ligature elastic are used to help the teeth move to its actual position. Braces or arch-wires are generally placed on the teeth during a misaligned tooth situation. The teeth start moving in its right place when pressure is put by the arch-wires. Sometimes the dentists recommend springs or rubber bands to put more force in a specific direction. This movement of teeth needs to be done very slowly otherwise the patients may lose their teeth forever.
The patients need to wear brackets continuously during a certain period of time. This treatment time depends on the acuteness of the teeth problem and the structure of teeth. However an individual needs to wear these brackets approximately for two and half years.

Types of Braces:

As the modern technology has grown up the orthodontic technology has also improved a lot. Metal brackets are generally used as a popular medium of repairing tooth alignment. Apart from that there are different other types of aligners the patients use in order to repair their tooth alignment.
